Deerbrook Mall Presents Humble ISD With $20,000 for Schools Participating in My School’s Cool

On Tuesday, June 9, Deerbrook Mall celebrated area schools with the presentation of a $20,000 My School’s Cool check to the Humble Independent School District (HISD). The $20,000 will be distributed to 11 area schools that participated in the shopping center’s special community program that awards cash prizes to participating area schools. Deerbrook Mall has sponsored My School’s Cool since the 2010-11 school year, representing a total of $100,000 that has been contributed in five years.

“Working with the schools and being able to support the community through the My School’s program is truly a very special endeavor for all of us at Deerbrook Mall. Meeting the principals and teachers, seeing the students at their schools, learning about the programs is a very rewarding experience,” says Sandy LaClave, senior general manager at Deerbrook Mall. “The shopping center is fortunate to be in the center of a very special, active community with a proud history of educational excellence.”

All private and public schools located in the Humble area are eligible to participate in My School’s Cool by enrolling at the beginning of the school year. Participating schools earn points through a variety of tactics, including submitting receipts from mall purchases and promoting the program. To provide a level playing field for all size schools, My School’s Cool winners are chosen based on the number of points per student, allowing smaller schools to compete with bigger schools in a fair manner.

Top-point earners for the 2014-15 program were: Cambridge School, $10,000; Quest Early College High School, $4,000; and Bear Branch Elementary School, $2,000. Eight additional qualifying schools were awarded $500 each, including Fall Creek Elementary School, Humble Elementary School, Kingwood Middle School, Maplebrook Elementary School, Northbelt Elementary School, Oak Forest Elementary School, Shadow Forest Elementary School and Timbers Elementary School.

Previous $10,000 winners in the My School’s Cool program include 2013-14 Quest Early College High School; 2012-13 Quest Early College High School; 2011-12 Bear Branch Elementary School; and 2010-11 Shadow Forest Elementary School.

The kick-off for the 2015-2016 My School’s Cool program will be in August. Schools should contact

Sandy LaClave, senior general manager, at sandra.laclave@generalgrowth.com to inquire about participating. A limited number of public and private schools will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Schools must be located in the Humble/Lake Houston area.
