K. Buster - Professionals in many settings use a computer keyboard. Keying is a skill you are likely to use to enter data, retrieve information, communicate, and improve productivity. Learn correct posture and position at the keyboard. Master correct touch-system techniques to improve speed and accuracy. Apply word processing skills to format basic documents in MS Word. Room 607
Babysitting (11-15) BA01 Sat 9-4 pm 4/1 $85
T. DiFruscio, A. DiFruscio, American Red Cross Certified. Jump into a one-day course to learn the “ins and outs” of babysitting! This course, designed by the American Red Cross, prepares youth with the training every parent wants in a babysitter - safety, basic child care, safe play, first aid/critical emergency skills and leadership! Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a sack lunch with drink. Classes held in the FISD Annex Training Room, 402 Laurel Drive.
Coding Camp (6th-8th) CC01 W 4:15-5:15 pm 2/1-4/19 $100
A. Walter - Kids are growing up with technology in a way that even millennials haven’t experienced. Just watch a toddler navigate a tablet, and it’s clear that technology comes naturally to the newest generation. Because we have evolved into this digital world, coding has become integral to companies everywhere, making programming a smart career path for the next generation. This camp will help middle school children learn how to problem solve and think analytically to be able to program code. This camp allows tween’s children to experience the joy of programming and will prepare them for the future. After learning the basics of coding, we will be learning how to program Raspberry Pi’s and Android tablets. This camp will be held at the Friendswood High School and facilitated by the Computer Science teacher. No class 3/27 due to testing. FHS Computer Science Lab.
Creative Writing & Publishing (15+) CW01 T/Th 7-8:15 pm 2/28-4/13 $70
L. Patterson - Learn the basics of getting published, submitting query letters, journal and anthology publications, and self and traditional publishing. Beginning marketing strategies, submittable, Ebook formatting, print formatting. Working with an editor, this class will focus on novels, short fiction, and poetry.
College Prep-A CP01 Th 7-9 pm 2/9 $25
J. Brand - Picking the Right “FIT” Colleges and Majors - Learn the importance of college selection as it pertains to admissions chances, and SAT/ACT scores. Discussion will include an overview of graduation requirements and endorsements, typical 4-year plans, and differences between AP and Dual Credit. Class would be most useful for students in 8th-11th grades and their parents.
College Prep-B CP02 Th 7-9 pm 2/16 $25
J. Brand - SAT or ACT - This class will discuss the differences between these two tests, 2016 changes, essay requirements, average test scores for several colleges and how to prepare. Testing timeline for juniors along with recommendations for test prep strategies and skills will be distributed. Class is ideal for Juniors and their parents, but also open to Sophomores.
