A bittersweet commencement ceremony for 68 graduates from Houston Can Academy Hobby campus was held last Saturday at Houston Baptist University. During the ceremony an emotional tribute was held for a student who died in a tragic shooting accident a few weeks ago. Osvaldo Uresti was scheduled to graduate with his fellow classmates who enjoyed his talents as a DJ at their recent prom. A chair with his cap and gown was neatly displayed and his name was called followed by a moment of silence during the ceremony. Roberto Uresti, Osvaldo's father, accepted his diploma posthumously. Local poet, Dr. Roz Vaughn, wrote a poem honoring the young man.
