The Buckingham retirement community recently welcomed guest speaker Valerie Ramsey, author of “Creating What’s Next-Gracefully”, and the executive editor of Fabulously 50+. She has been described as the new face, style and attitude of aging. Invited guests and residents of The Buckingham had the chance to meet Ramsey, who shared stories about how she transitioned from being a stay-at-home mom to pursuing a corporate career at age 53. She also discussed how she started modeling at 63, as well as how she became a published author and motivational speaker at 68 and a magazine editor at 76.

During Ramsey’s keynote speech, she encouraged residents and invited guests to use their lives as springboards to embark on a new adventure of self-discovery. Ramsey also spoke candidly about overcoming challenges while starting a new career, such as battling three major illnesses in her early 50s. Ramsey’s inspirational presentation was an extension of the Masterpiece Living® philosophy, which serves as the community’s foundation. The philosophy embraces a wellness-minded attitude and encourages learning by focusing on an individual’s key development areas—physical, mental, social and spiritual. Ramsey, who is also a certified Masterpiece Living® speaker, uses her story as a tool to enhance, encourage and educate seniors embarking on a new challenge.
