Houston Authors Cathy Lightfoot, marketing director of The Buckingham; Eric Pohl, author of “Houston, Texas: A Photogenic Portrait;” Hayley Hamilton Cogill, certified sommelier; A.J. Mistretta, “100 Things to do in Houston Before You Die;” Carolyn Farb, “Lucas Comes to America.”

The Buckingham retirement community in Houston welcomed three local authors and a certified sommelier for a special Read Between the Wines event earlier this month. The popular Houston authors, including Carolyn Farb, A.J. Mistretta and Eric Pohl, presented their books and insider views of Houston to the community’s guests.

Additionally, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, certified sommelier, consultant, educator and wine/spirits/travel writer, introduced and described special wines that guests sipped and savored as the authors shared their work. Each book was preceded with a special wine presentation by Cogill – a member of the Les Dames d’Escoffier International and the Society of Wine Educators – for guests to enjoy while the authors presented tales and selections from their books.

“These three authors have enjoyed long and meaningful careers among Houston’s most influential people during some of our city’s most exciting times,” said Julie Fenske, executive director of The Buckingham. “So many of our residents have their own firsthand stories of the events, people and places they reported on, so it was especially exciting to have them in our community sharing their stories personally.”

Carolyn Farb discussed her first children’s book, “Lucas Comes to America.” A.J. Mistretta shared recommendations from his book, “100 Things to do in Houston Before You Die,” while Eric Pohl shared photographs from his coffee table book, “Houston, Texas: A Photogenic Portrait.”

Bringing together some of the most recognized and beloved members of Houston society media, the event recalled the people, culture and heritage that helped establish Houston as a special city and a sought-after place to call home. The Buckingham, which subscribes to the Masterpiece Living Program™ philosophy, embraces healthy living at any age in all regards – physical, spiritual, social and mental. This includes the opportunity to help residents and guests remain active and engaged through engaging social events such as Read Between the Wines.
