The South County 4th of July Parade will take place July 4 starting at 9:00 a.m. in The Woodlands Town Center. In accordance with this year’s parade theme, “Music of America,” the coveted Parade Grand Marshal position has been awarded to Darryl Bayer, the Artistic Director of The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra.

“We are excited to have Darryl as the 2016 Grand Marshal, as his revival of The Woodlands Symphony has brought an additional touch of class to the musical culture of our community,” said Kelly Dietrich, President of the South County 4th of July Committee. Mr. Bayer is familiar with the parade and the importance of music. More than 20 years ago, Bayer co-spearheaded the creation of The Woodlands Community Band to have a marching band in the 4th of July parade. This year, five high school bands will participate in the program, including The Woodlands, College Park, Hempstead, Willis and Houston All Star Band.

More than 20,000 spectators are expected to line the streets to view 145 parade entries, including street performers, marching bands, fire engines, floats and more. The parade will extend 1.3 miles, beginning and ending at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, located at 2200 Lake Woodlands Dr.

This year’s presenting sponsor, Avanti, is a local senior living facility committed to quality assisted living and memory care. The family-oriented facility embraces involvement from family members of all ages. “We are eager to serve as the presenting sponsor for the parade, as we believe music is a universal language, transcending both language and time barriers,” said Community Relations Director Carri Morawietz. “Whether you’ve just entered the world or have been here for many years, music is something you can connect with.”

The parade and surrounding activities will take place rain or shine. For more information about the event and how to become a sponsor for the parade, visit www.4thofjuly.org.
