Singing Lawyer keeps Families in Tune with Legacy Plan

The traditional experience of planning for your future can be a very boring experience that none of us relish doing. David W. Weygandt of Weygandt Law is nothing like the traditional and stereotypical attorney you may have met somewhere in life. David embraced his background and is changing the legal landscape–one client at a time.

In The Woodlands, David is commonly known as “The Singing Lawyer,” a moniker first coined by his late-grandfather, Bill Weygandt. He received his Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude (with high honors/top 10%) from South Texas College of Law in Downtown Houston. As a professional trained singing actor, David sings professionally and at community events, and continues to maintain a small piano & voice studio in The Woodlands. David received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music in upstate New York. If you attend any Chamber event, you may hear David bust out in song to promote his law firm instead of a delivering the typical 60 second commercial. What is most interesting is that he typically changes the lyrics to a commonly known song, and rarely recycles creative material.

David’s firm, Weygandt Law, focuses on providing excellent and cost-conscious proactive legal planning to families and business owners, as trusted advisors, and as zealous advocates, when necessary. The firm handles estate planning (including special needs and asset protection planning), business planning (including entity formation, contracts/agreements, hiring & firing, intellectual property protection, and outsourced corporate counsel services), probate & estate administration, and civil litigation (resolving personal & business disputes).

Estate Planning

His specialty in the community is his entertaining approach of educating how to keep your family “in tune” so you can have peace of mind. You have an opportunity to taste some wine (or whiskey) as a prelude to the interactive presentation, which is designed to help you plan for the inevitable.

Weygandt Law’s “Wine & Wills” (and “Wills & Whiskey”), entertaining & educational workshops, are offered monthly in The Woodlands. Seating is limited so RSVP is required online at www.WeyLaw.com/workshops

“Our approach allows people to ask those thought provoking questions in a low pressure and informal atmosphere. It is easier to consider serious matters while sipping on an adult beverage. Most people do not enjoy pondering questions like, what happens if you die without a will? What will happen to my children if something happens to me? Why an estate plan is important, even if you don’t have many assets?”

Business Planning

“I believe the onslaught of free and low cost online-based legal services and the unlicensed ‘keyboard warrior experts’ on social media have created huge risks for entrepreneurs and small business owners. If entrepreneurs use these free (or low -cost solutions), they think they are protected–in many circumstances with a false sense of security. Eventually they will likely learn that the cost of speaking and working with a local attorney is vastly cheaper in comparison. I’m trying to make it a no brainer to build a relationship with a local attorney,” said Weygandt.

David believes in protecting entrepreneurs and small business owners so much, he is currently filing LLCs for FREE if you: (1) take care of the filing fees (just like the other guys); and (2) schedule & attend a Foundation Session. David loves arming business owners with information about what can happen if you are not proactive with your business planning.

This education is so essential to the attorney-client relationship at Weygandt Law that the foundation session is a complimentary private conversation (60 minutes:35–45-minute personalized presentation plus an additional 15 minutes for Q&A). The Foundation Session is dedicated to walking through the most common legal building blocks, how they may be used to proactively protect you and your business and finding ways to help make your business become more efficient, profitable, or valuable for the long-term.

“I like to call it a legacy life plan, because it needs to be reviewed regularly (and changed if necessary) as you move through life. The more the merrier, I have found that those that attend Wine and Wills or (Whiskey and Wills) with friends, their spouse or a family member have a lot more fun. And attending W&W is less stressful than any typical meetings with a lawyer. Come to learn and have fun, and you’ll leave with more knowledge about what you need to do to protect your family (or your business),” said Weygandt.

“Music is the universal language of mankind.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Ribbon Cutting

Weygandt Law has been an active member of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce since January 2018. In April, a large group of family, friends, and the business community gathered for a ribbon-cutting celebration, which commemorated its new office space at 26118 Oak Ridge Drive. David shares this office with Kodie McCuller, his Client Services Representative. Kodie is responsible for making the entire client experience–from start to finish–a personal & professional one. Kodie helps with both sides of David’s practice, from the proactive (business and estate planning) to the reactive (litigation and probate matters).
