The Woodlands area has no shortage of places to shop. But one organization is offering a unique take on the shopping experience, providing much-needed training and employment to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Our name stands for Together Everyone Achieves More, and we here at TEAM Abilities are excited to announce the July 2 opening of Rachel’s Vintique Market in Old Town Spring. This market will be a more visible way for the men and women of TEAM to showcase their talents while earning an income in a safe, supervised environment,” said Rachel Jelks, Executive Director and Founder of TEAM Abilities, Inc.

Rachel’s Vintique Market will offer a mix of new and antique items for sale. “What’s unique about our items is that the candles, bath products and jewelry are all handcrafted by TEAM Abilities residents and clients with skills they learn in class. Our Works of Wonder, or WOW, line is a way for our clients to learn a new trade, as well as take pride in providing a valuable product to the community,” said Jelks.

Rachel’s Vintique Market will also be staffed by the men and women of TEAM with assistance from volunteers. The profits from items made by the clients will go back to the program, providing individuals who might otherwise be underemployed or unemployed with much-needed financial assistance to help with ongoing medical care and other related costs.

“We take pride in our clients, and they take pride in the skills they learn and value they provide,” said Jelks. “We want to share that experience with our community, to support our men and women so that they feel encouraged and involved. Whether you stop in to purchase an item or just to say ‘hello,’ that goes a long way toward fostering a spirit of community involvement. It also just brings joy to everyone involved.”

Rachel’s Vinitique Market is located at 26515 Preston Ave Building C in Old Town Spring. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to-5 p.m. The soft grand opening takes place Saturday, July 2, with a larger celebration to follow in September.
