PRESENTATION OF $10,000 FIRST PLACE CHECK TO CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL TUESDAY, JUNE 2.

On Monday and Tuesday, June 1 and 2, Sandy LaClave, general manager of Deerbrook Mall, traveled to three Humble schools, awarding $20,000 in cash prizes to the top three point earners in the center’s 2014-2015 My School’s Cool program. At each school, students and faculty celebrated the presentation and earned congratulations from Ms. LaClave on a job well done.

“Visiting each of the schools, learning about their programs and seeing the students was very inspiring. Each school was brimming with spirit and it was such an honor to be able to participate in the school day,” says Ms. LaClave. “The children at Bear Branch entertained us with a delightful performance of ‘Happy.’ At Quest, the hard-working high school students took time out from lunch to pose for pictures. And, at Cambridge, students greeted us with posters and smiles – and we enjoyed a tour of the school with all its programs. Thanks to each of the schools for the wonderful welcomes and for participating in My School’s Cool. Enjoy your summers and see you next year!”

Cambridge School, shown above, took home top honors, winning $10,000 of My School’s Cool cash. Principal Tammey Harlan, who has been at Cambridge for eight years, indicated that the school has big plans for the funds, including adding to the Mosaic Program Production, building a garden and more.

More technology is on the purchase list for Quest Early College High School, according to Principal Ginger Noyes, who is a 12-year veteran of the program which allows qualified students to earn both a high-school diploma and an Associate’s degree or up to two years of credit toward a Bachelor’s degree. Last year, Quest was awarded the top $10,000 prize with which the school purchased 30 Chromebooks and carts. With the $4,000 second place earnings for 2014-15, the school plans to add more Chromebooks.

Updating technology is on the agenda at Bear Branch Elementary School, the third place winner that took home $2,000. The student body at Bear Branch greeted Ms. LaClave with a special rendition of Pharrell William’s song “Happy.”

Eleven schools participated in the 2014-2015 My School’s Cool program. Each of the other schools was awarded $500, including Fall Creek Elementary School, Humble Elementary School, Kingwood Middle School, Maplebrook Elementary School, Northbelt Elementary School, Oak Forest Elementary School, Shadow Forest Elementary School and Timbers Elementary School.

The kick-off for the 2015-20s16 My School’s Cool program will be in August. Schools should contact
